Recently, our aging TV finally died. It was one of those huge 52' projection TVs given to us by a friend that was downsizing. The following weekend I was soooo close to driving down to Circuit City and getting a new one. One of those impulse buys. I wouldn't call it a true impulse buy because I actually need a new TV, but there was definitely a strong impulse to get one. What made that "feeling" go away? Life's distractions. Ultimately, I know I need to get a new TV, but the distractions of life come in and that impulse takes a back burner.
Where am I going with this? Well, at Astonish I get the opportunity to look at statistics. Namely, email marketing statistics. One thing that I've found is that many of our customers will have email recipients that open their emails 3,4,5 or as high as 20 times! The point is this. Someone may open your email several times and NEVER call you or apply on your website. Why? They're obviously interested in your message. My theory is that they know they need to do something, but the distractions of life get in the way. Getting a new mortgage is much more important than a new TV. People procrastinate. It's your job to find out who's interested and help them.
This is why email marketing is so important. It helps you gauge interest. It's like using a fish-finder when you're out on the lake. It doesn't make sense talking to people who aren't interested. Focus on the people who've opened your email and help THEM.
